Baby Kellen

Let's just say our Christmas was very different this year but what a true blessing. On Dec. 22nd Matt and I welcomed our sweet bundle of joy to the world, Kellen Dwight Burchett at 5:58 PM weighing 8 lbs. 9 oz. and 20 1/2 inches long.

We started our hospital adventure Dec. 19th. It was to be like any other day, I had gone to the doctor for my weekly check up and found out that the fluid level was on the lower end, so my doctor immediately put me on the monitor and told me that she wanted me to go into the hospital as soon as I left her office for IV fluids. Let me just say that this completely changed the plans for the evening, instead of finishing up last minute Christmas shopping and purchasing a couple of items for Kellen, I spent the whole weekend in the hospital and sucked down what felt like 20 bags of fluid throughout my stay. I will say that I had more in my system than I had when I arrived. I felt like a balloon before I left that place. We were in the APU unit at Central Baptist until Sunday evening and then I was moved to Labor and Delivery sometime after 9:00 PM. As soon as I was settled they slowly started my induction.

I will say that throughout that night I didn't get much sleep. I was pretty anxious but extremely tired. As the clock struck 4:00 AM I think I finally fell asleep, then at 6:30 AM the nurse came in and increased my medicine to start labor. I was in labor for about 8 hours before it was decided to do a c-section. I was one who was a 'failure to progress'. I was dilated to 6 cm for what seemed like forever. My doctor felt that it would be better for Kellen and me if we went ahead and had a c-section. Throughout the day my little guys heart rate dropped with the medicine and I wasn't progressing like I had hoped so we opted for the c-section. We were prepped and ready to go to the OR in 30 minutes. At 5:30 PM I was in the OR ready for my delivery, and at 5:58 PM my doctor held up the most precious thing I had ever seen, My Baby!

I thought that moment would never come. After I saw him he was quickly handed over to the best nurse ever, my sister Heather.

Matt and I could not have asked for a better nurse. Kellen was well taken care of and loved so much during his first minutes of life. What precious moments!!! After he was taken care of Heather brought him over so I could see him and give him a kiss. Once I was able to do that he and Daddy went to the nursery.

Matt and I were very excited and filled with complete joy! Kellen was perfect in every way!

We left the hospital Christmas day, man that was a great day! We made it home around 3:00 PM that afternoon. All three of us were tired. I even cat napped in the chair with Kellen on my chest. He is such a cuddle bug! I love it!!!!! Tomorrow he will be 3 weeks old. It's hard to believe how much he has grown. I will be sure to keep you updated on the many things that are changing and going on in our lives, oh and I will have plenty of pictures to show as well.

I hope that you enjoy!

All of our love,
Matt, Hope & Baby Kellen
